RFQ Code: WFL-RFQ-008
THEME: Rural Water Security & Ecological Conservation
SDG GOAL: SDG 11 – SDG 13 – Climate Action & SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation
ABOUT THE PROJECT:Rural ponds have long supported agricultural livelihoods, groundwater recharge, and biodiversity, but many are now silted, polluted, or abandoned. The Pond Restoration Project aims to revive these water bodies through a combination of ecological design, de-silting, bund strengthening, and vegetation enhancement. The project also focuses on community engagement to ensure long-term maintenance and sustainable water use. By restoring ponds, the initiative improves village water security and builds resilience against droughts and erratic rainfall.
SCOPE OF PROJECT:
1. Removal of accumulated silt and sludge to increase holding capacity
2. Strengthening of pond bunds and repair of inlet/outlet channels
3. Plantation around pond periphery for erosion control and biodiversity support
4. Water quality improvement through inlet filtration and organic waste removal
5.Awareness drives to prevent dumping and promote protection
IMPACT:
1. Enhanced water storage and improved lake health
2. Groundwater recharge and improved water table
3. Revived aquatic biodiversity and bird habitat zones
4. Reduction in flooding and surface runoff in surrounding areas
5. Creation of eco-recreational spaces for local communities
