Way For Life

RFQ Code: WFL-RFQ-003

THEME: Sustainable Water Management

SDG GOAL: SDG 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation

ABOUT THE PROJECT: Rural and semi-rural communities across India are increasingly impacted by water scarcity caused by erratic rainfall, declining groundwater levels, and soil erosion. This project addresses these challenges by constructing check dams across seasonal water channels to slow rainwater runoff, promote groundwater recharge, and retain soil moisture. These small, locally built structures play a vital role in harvesting rainwater and making it available year-round for both agricultural and domestic use. By supporting sustainable farming practices, preserving topsoil, and enhancing local biodiversity, the initiative fosters ecological balance. Rooted in community participation, the project also strengthens long-term water management through capacity building and inclusive, village-led development.

SCOPE OF PROJECT:
1. Construction of check dams across seasonal streams and runoff channels
 2. Use of locally available materials (stone, concrete, brick) to ensure cost-effective, durable structures
 3. Design includes spillways, sediment traps, and erosion control features
 4. Training of local communities on maintenance, water use efficiency, and sustainable agriculture
 5. Community-led monitoring and upkeep for long-term functionality

IMPACT:
Enhances water availability, strengthens local farming systems, reduces topsoil loss, and supports long-term environmental and economic resilience.
